Deep Languages Education Policy and Practices

Call for PAPERS

Language Education Policy is a burgeoning field of scholarship that grounds its legitimation on broad frameworks such as Language Policy, Education Policy, Curriculum Studies and Critical Language Studies. This Conference focuses on policies that bring deep, open curricula to the fore, in relation to Francois Victor Tochon's recent book on deep approaches to world languages and cultures

Using a Deep Approach to language learning implies a paradigmatic change in the way instructors teach. The new approach is transdisciplinary and transformative in contrast to transmissive education.

The deep approach is significantly related to an intention to understand deeply. It defines a situation in which the teacher is not the only source of inspiration and knowledge. The learners become curriculum builders.

It needs to define its conceptual and philosophical orientations and its foundational purposes to receive increasing recognition by educators and the public in response to growing societal interests in globalization and local forms of school violence that manifest in the way languages are treated.

The First International Conference on Deep Languages Education Policy & Practices
Stimulating languages learning - global perspectives and local practice
is being held on the weekend of 11-12 October 2014 at the University of Southern Queensland, Springfield campus, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
